Underpinning in Houses
Once it has been established that a house is suffering from the effects of ongoing foundation movement, then the most likely remedy is underpinning. This can take various forms, the most common being concrete blocks cast under the existing foundation in controlled lengths and steel concrete-filled piles driven into the ground alongside the foundation.
Structural Design Solutions Limited would provide advice on the most appropriate form of underpinning, based on the nature of the property, existing foundation type, local ground conditions and possible construction restrictions. We would prepare calculations and sketches to substantiate the chosen underpinning solution and to enable piling contractors (if required) to provide tender quotations.
